Since the beginning of mankind, herbal medicine has played a crucial role in health. People across the globe trust herbal medicine to cure common illnesses and injury. Recently, herbal medicine has exploded in popularity. In fact, some are taking it currently as a cure to treat the coronavirus. While I don’t recommend you use herbal medicine to treat covid19 (please seek advice from the CDC or WHO for all advice and any questions you may have about covid19), there are still benefits to herbal medicine. One herb lesser-known for its herbal medicine benefits is daisies. It shares commonalities with arnica, which treats bruises, injuries, and joint pain.  Listed below are more of the unknown benefits of daisies.

A safer alternative to arnica:

As we age, our blood vessels tend to shrink in size. The shrinkage causes bruises to occur easier and last longer, meaning a longer recovery time for our bodies. A common ingredient found in home remedies, arnica is trusted by some to cure bruises and injuries. The issue with arnica is the level of toxicity and the effect it has on blood vessels. Arnica is toxic, even at a moderate dose. In addition, arnica is found in some over-the-counter treatments. These treatments may contain other chemicals that may shorten blood vessels further. This shortage may cause bruises to prolong recovery.

More abundant:

Depending on what region of the world you live in, daisy fields are common. Bellis perennis, the scientific name for daisies, are prominent in the northern regions of Europe. Great Britain and Ireland are known for possessing various daisy fields.  Besides Europe, daisies are everywhere else in the world including North America.

Other benefits:

Daisies have been shown to alleviate coughs, bronchitis, kidney and liver issues, and inflammation. While with any herbal medicine you want to seek a healthcare professional before taking any herbal medicine, clinical studies have shown its effectiveness for not only internal problems but external as well.
